Family Addiction Class

Addiction is a family disease. When an addict gets sick, it’s not just the addict who gets sick. The entire family is affected in a profound way. Families are a system. Over time, family members come to understand one another very deeply and to have ingrained ways of doing things, from dividing labor to having fun together. They know how to love and support one another and how to ask for and receive love and support. Addiction destroys this system. There are two important points here. One is that every member of an addict’s household is profoundly harmed by what they go through. They may handle it in different ways, but they are all hurt, and they all need help. The second point is that this is to be expected.

For all these reasons and many, many more it is critical that not only the addict, but the family receive healing and information about what is going on! So, we are now requiring that the family that are going to be caring for the client during their stay at Fresh Wind get the information they will desperately need to attend a 2-session class on addiction. The classes will be held at least once a quarter at our school at College Station Church, 1225 College Station Rd, Athens, Ga 30605 in the upstairs.
